How2 Make Playdough

Learning how to make playdough is easy, and provides cheap, homemade fun for kids.  My daughter loves getting messy and making shapes with a cookie cutter or just molding it into different forms.  This activity keeps her really engrossed for hours (good time for me to catch up on some reading).

3 cups flour
1 cup salt
6 tsp cream of tartar
3 cups water
3 tblsp vegetable oil
food coloring

  1. Mix the dry ingredients in a large saucepan.
  2. Add water and oil to the saucepan and blend the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the dough thickens.
  3. Add several drops of food coloring until you get a bright color that kids like. Cook for about 5 mins.
  4. Take it out of the saucepan and on to a cutting board and knead well for a few mins. Add extra flour if its too sticky.
  5. Store in airtight container and it should last for about 3 months.
